Passed after January 1997? You need to take a test to drive a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes.

Get your licence to drive a vehicle over 3.5 tonnes, up to 7.5 tonnes. Category C1 (previously class 3). This training is ideal for paramedics and horsebox owners who only need to go up to 7.5 GVW

If you passed your car test (category B) after January 1997 you will have to sit an additional test in order to drive a vehicle that exceeds 3.5 tonnes such as ambulances and many modern horseboxes.
